Exploring the realities of health equity and diversity in cancer clinical trials

Only around 5%-13% of people who take part in cancer trials are Black or African American, Asian, or Hispanic, compared with 75% of white people. Labcorp is committed to addressing healthcare disparities, improving diversity in clinical trials and making clinical trials accessible for all. Improving the diversity of participants in cancer trials is imperative to ensure medicines are safe for all population demographics and to accelerate the provision of equitable healthcare to more people. Recently, Labcorp cohosted a Community Listening Summit with the Tigerlily Foundation where patient experts, medical experts and advocates shared their perspectives on the realities of health equity in cancer treatment. Here, we review the main takeaways and outline plans to take these insights forward as part of Labcorp's commitment to improving diversity and inclusion in clinical trials.
