Brian Caveney, M.D. has served as Executive Vice President and President, Early Development Research Laboratories and Chief Medical and Scientific Officer at Labcorp since 2023.
In his current role, Brian leads all early development research laboratories globally and oversees all medical and scientific affairs, oncology, cell and gene therapy and quality for Labcorp.
Brian has been instrumental in accelerating growth in the company’s diagnostics business, as well as advancing its medical and scientific strategy, since joining Labcorp in 2017. Under his leadership, the company has advanced diagnostic testing services, introduced new products across key therapeutic areas and expanded its hospital strategy. Brian led efforts to expand the accessibility of COVID-19 PCR testing, used his expertise to help bring understanding about testing and treatment options to the public, and drove advancements to the way the company works with the broader healthcare industry.
He is a nationally recognized health policy expert, and before joining Labcorp in 2017, was Chief Medical Officer at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. In addition to various roles in the healthcare division of the core health plan, Brian also served as Chief Clinical Officer of Mosaic Health Solutions, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Blue Cross NC, for strategic investments in diversified health solutions businesses. Before that role, he was a practicing physician and assistant professor at Duke University Medical Center and also provided consulting services for several companies in the Research Triangle Park, North Carolina region.
Brian serves on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Healthcare Quality Alliance. He holds an M.D. from the West Virginia University School of Medicine, a J.D. from the West Virginia University College of Law, and an M.P.H. in health policy and administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed his residency at Duke University Medical Center and is board certified in preventive medicine, with a specialty in occupational and environmental medicine
