Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama Announces Relationship with Labcorp to Provide Members Best Overall Value for Outpatient Lab-Related Services
BIRMINGHAM, AL, Sept. 17, 2024 – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama’s mission is to provide our members access to high quality, affordable care, delivered by the most cost-effective healthcare providers.
Effective December 1, 2024, Labcorp, a global leader of innovative and comprehensive laboratory services, will be the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama exclusive national laboratory in the Preferred Medical Laboratory (PML) Program and the only Preferred Medical Laboratory Plus (PMLP) provider in the outpatient laboratory network. Covered lab services provided by Labcorp and other contracted Preferred Medical Laboratories will be processed at the in-network level of benefits.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama and Labcorp will collaborate to enhance the laboratory experience for both members and physicians, reflecting their shared commitment to deliver high-quality, cost-effective care aimed at improving patient health.
With more than 1,900 Alabama employees and a centrally located Birmingham laboratory, Labcorp will continue to provide Blue Cross members with statewide access to a broad menu of high-quality routine, specialty and STAT laboratory testing services and advanced patient solutions and programs.
